Initial Sound - Memory
Product Description
Children love playing memory. This activity focuses on initial sounds in common words.Students place the cards face down. In two sides. One side has the pictures and the other side has the letters. Students pick a card from each side and try to get them to match. If they get it correctly they keep the set of cards. If the cards don’t match they need turn the cards face down and its the next players turn. Keep playing until there are now face down cards left.

I would suggest you teach students to stress the initial sound of the card while playing this game. Eg: If someone picks up a picture of an apple they could say... "This is an apple. The word apple starts with an 'a' sound. I need to find the letter 'a'." By teaching students a script like this, it helps them differentiate between a letter and a sound and makes them explicitly identify the initial sound and letter.

Learning Goals:
- Letter identification
- Letter sound recognition
