Description

Phonological Awareness Science of Reading Aligned Initial Sounds Lessons and Activities

Phonological and Phonemic Awareness is the foundation upon which all the other layers of literacy are built. If this foundation isn’t strong the other layers will suffer, and the student will struggle to read. - David Kilpatrick

This resource for initial sounds is packed full of lesson plans and hands-on activities to teach and provide practice with the skill of initial sound identification.

What is Phonological Awareness?

Phonological Awareness is the foundation for Reading and Writing success. Students who have phonological awareness know that language is made up of words, rhymes, syllables, and sounds.

Phonemic Awareness is an important component of Phonological Awareness. Students who have phonemic awareness are able to hear and identify the individual sounds in words, manipulate sounds, and blend sounds together to make words.
