This essay assignment is the culminating in-class assessment after teaching students about Hispanic Immigration in the US. It can be used together or separate from my Hispanos en los Estados Unidos PowerPoint (also available on TPT). Students will need to have learned about the difference between legal and illegal immigration, the process of receiving a visa, and the reasons that many choose to enter illegally in order to complete the essay. I assign this to my level four Spanish students. They are permitted to use their notes, as I use this as a synthesis exercise that will help prepare them for AP Spanish. The students will need a minimum of two class periods to finish. The essay is graded on the Fairfax County Upper Level Writing Rubric (available for free online), so there is no rubric attached.
