In many disciplines, the ability to create clear, concise instructions which can easily be replicated is essential. Learning to think through how to communicate to another person can be fun and exciting with this Input/Output activity. Whether you are teaching coding, how to write scientific procedures, or even basic literacy skills, this activity is great for introducing the topic.
In this activity, students will write instructions for creating a color of paint, and other students will follow the instructions to see if they get the same result. This activity also includes discussion questions for pairs and large groups to help guide your students through thinking through the process of communicating effectively!
I use this activity in my chemistry class at the start of the school year!
