This inquiry force exploration activity is a great way to introduce forces to students before any formal instruction of force. It allows them to experience the forces and to begin hypothesizing what types of forces they are interacting with at each of the stations.
As a follow up to this exploration activity, I would recommend discussing the forces involved at each station, reading the forces text with the students, and using a graphic organizer to sum up the forces they’ve experienced.
This activity begins with making expectations clear to the students and there are 10 stations students will rotate through. This exploration activity usually takes anywhere from 2-3 50 minute class periods.
All the materials can easily be found in a classroom or a house, so it is very inexpensive to do!
Have fun and enjoy!
