Students are able to plan and record their research by using the KWHLAQ guiding questions. The cover page has a place for students to record their topic.

(This is an updated version to original booklet. There are no tabs at the top to cut out, question stems, and action cycle page have also been added.)

The tabs at the top of the pages include:

K-What do I think I know about the subject?
W-What do I want and need to find out?
H-How will I go about finding answers to my questions?
L-What am I learning as I move along my inquiry journey?
A-What action will I take as a result of my inquiry?
Q-What new questions do I have as continue my inqiry?

One page of the booklet contains Key Concepts and question stems to help students generate questions about their topic to research.(Key Concepts include Form, Function, Causation, Perspective, Reflection, Responsibility, Change, Connection)

A page is devoted to the action cycle for students to record any action they take as a result of their inquiry.

The end of the booklet has a page to record any wonderings or other notes they may have while researching their topic and a page to cite sources. There is also a page with the IB-PYP Key Concepts, Learner Profile, Attitudes, Action Cycle, and Transdisciplinary themes.
The end of the book has a map to help locate areas around the world.

There are two title pages to choose from. One if students are working in a group and another if they are working alone.
