Activities have been designed for students in 1st through 3rd grade. Great for introducing young children to organizing given research information, putting it in sentence form, and presenting it in a different way.
Suggestions for implementing:
Insect Fact Sheets:
Place a copy of the fact sheets in a 3 ring binder and put it in your reading center along with other insect books. Children then have the opportunity to look through it, choose an insect to study, and place a sticky note with their name on that page. Print a copy for them to use for their project.
Insect Question Guide:
First Grade - answer questions as a whole group activity to model rephrasing questions and answering in complete sentences.
Second and Third Grade - set up so children can easily follow fact sheet to complete questions. Flexible enough to use along with other research sources to develop paragraph writing skills and create a more indepth project.
Some extension ideas:
Create a clay model of the insect and a habitat for it.
Oral Presentation - gives young learners experience in sharing information they have gathered. Presentation rubric included as a bonus gift.
