Ice Breaker / Beginning of the Year Activity using the Disney Pixar movie, "Inside Out."
Activity designed to find out what makes your students who they are. Have your students share a "Core Memory" (important life defining experience) through art, writing, speaking, and listening. Full lesson directions and teacher example included.
"Inside Out" is an animated film about a young girl's struggle through a family move, seen from her personified emotions. Her personality is built upon past important experiences/memories. (*Access to the first 6 minutes of the film is very helpful in setting up the activity.)
Finding out what's "inside" of my students has been very beneficial in creating meaningful connections. I often refer back to their stories and can choose text/examples/ideas to use in my lessons that I know they have interest in.
