Make showing a popular movie a meaningful experience connected directly to Common Core standards.
Using their knowledge about characterization, evidence, and writing, students will become analysts. They will watch the movie Inside Out to explore the traits and changes of its characters.
While watching the movie, they will take notes about two of the characters, Riley and Joy, in an effort to complete the following tasks:
Analyze how Riley changes throughout the movie. Describe at least two changes that she undergoes, and provide evidence to support your claims.
Analyze how Joy’s perception of Sadness changes throughout the film, and why. Provide evidence to support your claims.
At the conclusion of the movie, they will review their notes. Then, they will select one of the tasks to respond to in an essay. Their final essay can be graded using the provided rubric.
