The goal of Studio Art is for each student to choose a concentration/ area where they wish to focus and grown their skill and knowledge. In order to help students to make an informed decision about their concentration, the first Unit of the class will be more structured and a forum that encourages exploration.
At the start of any new class it is important to lay out expectations and make sure that the students understand how the class will run. Students in Studio Art will follow the Progress Assessment Model.
Throughout the semester students in Studio Art will be expected to keep an inspiration journal, some weeks students will receive specific assignments to complete in their inspiration journals, and other times they will be free to explore. The purpose of the inspiration journal or sketchbook, is for students to gather things that inspire them, as well as to serve as a tool for exploration, and working through problems. The inspiration journal will also serve as a conversation tool between teacher and student. When the student is having a difficult time developing an idea for an assignment the teacher and student can sit down together and use items from the inspiration journal to build ideas for an assignment.
This PDF includes instructions, guidelines and inspiration to help students to create their inspiration journals.
