Academic integrity is a concern for all educators. While there is an emphasis on policing to catch offenders, there is much that can be done to prevent cheating. This document presents the goals, preconditions, values, methods and strategies of an instructional design model to deter plagiarism in online courses. The model was developed based on the findings and model presented in my doctoral dissertation. Although the model was developed specifically for deterring plagiarism in online courses, most of the ideas presented here are also applicable to face-to-face classes.
