These five Comprehension Quick Checks are intended for use as formative assessments, i.e., to guide teachers' instruction and help make it more effective. Schools consistently use many formal assessments to measure achievement at the end of the school year. Formative assessments that provide teachers with information about students' mastery of content during instruction are not as common. however, these assessments should always be part of the instruction cycle and should inform teachers' instruction, making it more effective. Use these Comprehension Quick Checks often. they are quick, easy-to-use, and should provide useful information about what is working, what is not working, and what to do next. Most of these quick checks require written answers, but could be done orally as well.
