Aligning to the engineering process, this notebook is designed to imagine, plan, create, revise, and perform. Interdisciplinary with science and ELA, this notebook encourages students to reflect on their work. This is an improved design from the one I used with my students last year...they just wanted to get to the CREATING part! My students loved using recycled materials to create an instrument that produces a sound, changes volume, and/ or changes pitch. Their instruments were all unique! I encourage you to work collaboratively because the instrument assembly and writing takes time and guidance. I included mini-posters to display each step of the engineering process. The "sentence starters" poster is blank for you to add student-generated responses with a sticky note or marker. Pages are numbered and I included a back cover for their name. Margins are off-set to print back to back and bound. The sound unit in our school is now in grade 1, but this can be used in any grade for a STEAM project. The self-assessment (not to be bound with the off-set workbook pages), is geared toward younger reflection.
If you download my product, I hope you will take the time to rate how it keeps the focus of properties of musical instruments, but lets the students design their own with inspired thinking using the engineering process.
