Many games are possible with these Instrument Family Spinners. I print double sided and laminated a class set and used them to review instrument identification with my fourth and fifth grade classes.
My favorite game:
Students are divided into groups of 4-7
Students have an object in the center of the circle
---I used colorful rolls of tape that I also used for my sit spots
Groups earn points by identifying instrument families accurately:
---An instrument is shown or an instrument name is said
---Students point their spinners towards the center of the circle (this is where the object really helps)
---Student choices are: S-String; W-Woodwind; B-Brass; P-Percussion
---Once all students are locked in, group hands go up (If student hands go up before the whole group locks in, no point; this helps you know exactly which group is first.)
---The first group with all members locked in correctly that also raised their hands after all students were locked gets the point.
Many more games and stations are possible. Send me your ideas!
