Insurance is never a fun expense, however, insurance is a vital part of a financial plan. In this activity students will use the Internet to research national average premiums and their state of residence average premiums for homeowners, renters, automobile, and health insurance. Students will construct a bar graph with their findings. Students will dive deeper with open-ended questions about the costs and benefits of insurance. Next, students will calculate life insurance coverage amounts for 4 individuals with families. Further, students will calculate the coverage amounts for long-term disability insurance and short-term disability insurance.
Students should have a working knowledge of insurance types and terminology before completing this activity.
