This game is a winner with middle school students! "Trick" your students into basic integer addition practice by giving them a reason to WANT to do the problems (to keep score for their team).
Generally I structure this as a whole-class activity, girls versus boys, and project the game board. Each team chooses an available number, and receives that number of points. Once students begin play, they start to realize strategies to either gain the most points... or PREVENT the opposing team from gaining points. Once students see HOW to play the game, I always keep sheets handy for students to play in pairs at their seats as an "anchoring activity". Students who are new to adding integers will benefit from playing this game. Then they'll beg you to let them play it again!
Detailed rules and multiple game boards are included, as well as a blank game board for students to create their own!
