Practice integers with seven math centers that cover a range of introductory skills students need to master integer operations. Integer vocabulary, integer modeling with algebra tiles, number lines, and tables, as well as problem solving are practiced in these math centers.

Each game includes student instructions and a teacher guide to help you set up your center. Each activity also includes an answer key or an example of possible student work to make grading easy.

Integer Line Up

In this game, students try to get three squares in row by matching descriptions to algebra tile models. This game focuses on vocabulary concepts such as zero pairs, absolute value, positive value, and negative value.

Tile Toss Up

In this fun game, students toss algebra tiles or two color counters to create an integer value. Students use a special recording sheet to write the value as a variety of adding and subtracting expressions and determine a total value.

This game includes a student recording sheet to help you keep your students accountable for their work in centers!

Positive and Negative Card Sort

This activity is designed to help your students develop the academic and conversational vocabulary that is frequently used in integer problem solving. Students will categorize real world scenarios as either positive, negative, or zero value situations. Use the student recording sheet to have students document their work and reflect on the vocabulary that is used in the cards. This game is great for English language learners and academic language learners who may not be familiar with common English vocabulary.

Included in this game are: 24 sorting cards, student and teacher instructions, recording sheet, and full answer key.

Combining Integers

This game is easy to prep and can be played over and over again. Students spin integers to make an expression. A work mat guides students on how to combine integer values by adding or subtracting.

Model Matching

This matching game can be played two ways. Student instructions are included for memory style play or another matching activity that can be used with a special recording sheet. In this activity students match integer adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing expressions with models. The models used include algebra tiles models, number line models, and input/output tables. Students also solve the expressions using the models to check or scaffold their work.

Included in this activity are: 26 expression cards, 26 model cards, student and teacher instructions, recording sheet, and full answer key.

Grouping Integers

Do your student know why the rules for multiplying and dividing integers work? With this activity, students practice the basics of identifying multiplication and division situations from word problems. Students then use reasoning to decide whether each number is positive or negative.

Problem Solving Task Cards

Students use these real world scenario problems to apply their problem solving and integer operation skills. There are twenty questions total with five themes including: lunch money, temperature, football (American), elevation, and altitude. Students record the expressions, work, and solution on a recording sheet.

Included in this activity are: 20 word problem cards, student and teacher instructions, recording sheet, full answer key.
