Integer Football Review Game
This is a game I created this year to use with my Pre/Algebra and Algebra 1 students when practicing their skills with adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. They seem to do fine when they have a calculator, but I really like to push them to come up with the answer in their head.
This download includes a football field game board, with two number lines from -25 to 25. Football game pieces for the students to mark their progress during the game, and a score board for the students to keep track of their scores. The rules to the game are also included.
Here is the Objective/Set Up taken directly from the rule page:
This game requires a deck of cards. The black cards are positive and the red cards are negative. Before the game begins, the two players (or two teams) should be sitting on either side of the field.
Each player (or team) should write their name in the end-zone to their left. The goal of game is move the counter towards the opposing team’s end zone and score at the 25 yard marker. The number line closest to each player/team is the one they will use to track their progress during the game.
A player moves forward (toward the opponent’s end zone and positive side of the number line) and moves backwards (towards their end zone and the negative side of the number line) if it results in a negative number.
I hope your students like it as much as mine did! I made these up ahead of time and laminated them so I could use them year after year.
