Description

Start the school year off with a mini class project on Integers! Small groups of students will learn about number lines, positive and negative integers, opposites, absolute value and zero pairs using this activity! Learn how to peer review presentations using positive feedback, finding averages and investigate 10 different situations that use Integers!

Open with the "Mock" Professional Letter which assigns groups to a topic (10 different topics!) and allow students to have a role in the project (no one is left without work!) Editor, Presenter and Artist. Follow along with the 3-page Guided Notes that students will use to create a summary of their topic and the relationship with integers. Groups will present their findings with the entire class while being Peer Reviewed on a scale of 1-4 with the use of a Rubric.

Post Presentations, keep students on task using the wrap-up Integer Activity with 8 challenging questions and a short self-reflection cut-off that can be used as an Exit Ticket!

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
Understand a rational number as a point on the number line. Extend number line diagrams and coordinate axes familiar from previous grades to represent points on the line and in the plane with negative number coordinates.
Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line; recognize that the opposite of the opposite of a number is the number itself, e.g., -(-3) = 3, and that 0 is its own opposite.
Find and position integers and other rational numbers on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram; find and position pairs of integers and other rational numbers on a coordinate plane.
