All students love playing cards! This activity is great for partners to build on knowledge of integers, where they live on the number line, and determining their opposites. My students would engage in this activity for hours if I let them!
This activity closely aligns to CCSS 6.NS.C.5, 6.NS.C.6c, and C.NS.C.7.
Included are the directions for this activity, graphic organizers for the regular rounds as well as the "challenge" round, and the "challenge pile" cards (2 different sets).
You can differentiate this lesson allowing students who need more practice to continue in the regular rounds, while pushing your higher students into the challenge rounds, where they are comparing and ordering more complex values (mixed numbers, decimals, and percentages).
Support your English Language Learners through the use of sentence stems to guide their writing, or remove them for students who don't need the support!
I hope your students enjoy as much as mine did!
