Perhaps the most violent war in world history was the First World War. Yet, how could such a strong national unity drive so many young soldiers into such a brutal conflict? This question not only remains difficult for students, but history teachers alike.
In this read reading based lesson plan, students are asked to look at the very intuitions of our own society at building a national identity. Are sports themselves nothing more then the product of education training students to become soldiers? Furthermore, it looks at the war from the view point of soldiers before and after entering the war. This lesson plan provides some ideas for introducing the concept of the World War I to students of a High school level.
This lesson includes a before reading activity, vocabulary lesson, Reading engagement, and post reading assignment.
