This IPA follows ACTFL's guidelines. It incorporates 3 modes of communication: interpretive reading (IR), interpersonal communication (IC), and presentational writing (PW). It can be given at the beginning of the year to assess a student's proficiency in order to establish a benchmark from which to measure growth. The overall theme is that the student is a writer for the school magazine and they have been asked to do some research on how students are feeling about going back to school. Students will read an article about symptoms of back-to-school stress (IR), talk to a classmate about how they are feeling and their methods for coping with BTS stress (IC), and then write their article based on their investigation (PW).
