This lesson will help you integrate writing and technology by teaching students how to share a finished writing piece digitally by creating an audio file and a QR code. The QR code can then be printed and displayed on a bulletin board and listened to with a smart phone or tablet device that has a QR code scanner.
This lesson meets Common Core Standard:
With some guidance and support from adults, use technology, including the internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others.
My students and I did this with the technology integration specialist at our school and after going through this lesson a couple of times, students became comfortable with the process and were able to do it independently with the directions that are included. This lesson is also great in the long run! In my class it became a great activity for early finishers to do during writing workshop throughout the school year, it was also a great alternative for publishing for those students with IEP’s who struggle with writing due to fine motor skills or who type very slowly.
Because technology is constantly changing, this lesson has a limited life span. As long as QR codes are being used, you will find this lesson to be useful to you and your students!
