General description of music and non-music concept and how it would be integrated into the general classroom.
Use one of the most famous Chinese traditional music pieces “The butterfly lovers” to give students a general idea of what Chinese traditional music sounds like and what are some music instruments have been played in the music. This will give students an introduction of a new type of music style they never heard before and let them realize that music is a special language that without border. Even the type of music might be new to them, but they will still be able to understand the emotion in the music.
The music piece can be connected to the language arts part; students will read the article about the original story of “the butterfly lovers” and will be told that this story is often regarded as the Chinese equivalent of “Romeo and Juliet”. It will be a good opportunity for students to know a traditional Chinese love story and understand the cultural background and how it is different from the western cultural.
When the music and non-music part integrate together in this class, students will know that music can be a tool to tell the story even they don’t understand the language, because music is a way for people to express their emotion. Music is a language that can be used in any country in the world.
