If you use PowerPoint for instruction, here is an easy way to streamline your lessons. Instead of always having to tell your students what to do for each activity that is projected on the screen, why not just use a few pictures to communicate the directions? I’ve selected a few universal icons that clearly show students what they are expected to do. Depending on the required task, the icons can be used to tell students that they should be listening, thinking, speaking, or writing. These mnemonic aids are especially helpful to beginning readers of any age.
Simply copy and paste the selected icons into the upper right corners of your PPT slides. Be sure to show your students the brief introduction to the icons, to help them understand how they are to be interpreted.
