We began our Classifying Living Things Unit in an Inquiry Based fashion and finished the activity with an interactive activity that used critical thinking skills, cooperation, organization and problem solving. After engaging the students and introducing the content the students were given the skills and resources to organize themselves into a human dichotomous key in our classroom by moving around, grouping themselves with our key terms. This was a terrifically fun challenge and the students truly enjoyed doing this. It was a wonderful way to reinforce what dichotomous keys are and this lesson could be adapted in so many ways and geared up or down to work with students of all ages. This lesson includes my plans and guidance from start to finish. Completed in 40 minutes!
