Product Description
Serve as a guide for your class as they travel to 1836 to become a trader, build a fort, and learn first-hand about the Rocky Mountain fur trade. Together, you’ll face unexplored wilderness, wild animals, and unknown dangers on the Santa Fe Trail. Learn about how the forts in Colorado connected this region to other places. Using primary sources, you inspire the students to empathize with these early pathfinders and deepen their comprehension of this critical moment in American history.

This lesson plan includes:
- Comprehensive Teacher's Guide
- Printable Student Pages
- Pre- and Post-Test (Standards-based)
- Powerpoint with Movies
- Interactive Games, a Script, and More

With Time Travel Field Trips, everything you need to know is included as you go – no long background information to read and prepare. Plus, the included options for differentiation help all your students succeed.

Every Time Travel Field Trip product is researched for a minimum of 3 months. Primary sources are gathered and included throughout the lessons. Students hear directly from the past at appropriate points in the game. Primary sources are woven into letters from the past and shared both in writing and in movie form (using pictures and images from the time). They are always linked to what the students are about to face. After all, you care a lot more about what it was like to travel on the Santa Fe Trail when it’s your own life on the line.

Paintings from Alfred Miller, who traveled with the fur companies, are included in the student materials and in the movies.

Additional primary source support for student dice rolls included in the appendix. Share it with your students, read it for your own pleasure, or ignore it completely – whatever works for you!
