In this internet based scavenger hunt activity, students are asked a series of 7 questions. They will access the internet to find the answers to the questions, which are based on a variety of topics and are not specific to one content area.
Questions include information about:
The fictitious website that features the Northwest Pacific Tree Octopus. (The tree octopus website lends itself to a great discussion on validity of internet and media sources).
There are 7 topics covered in this activity, most of which have several questions included.
Students can enjoy this scavenger hunt in teams or individually, and can spend multiple sessions browsing for answers or you can make it a full computer-lab session.
It is best to have the conversation with students about appropriate internet usage (Digital Citizenship as it is commonly known), and why it is important to have valid sources for research and answers.
Within the activity, the websites are listed for the kids to access with a simple click of the mouse. The preview file includes the first 3 questions of the activity.
