This is a fun, interactive take on a Letter to Santa writing activity. Here are the steps:
Step one: Put students in groups of five around a table or sat in a circle on the floor.
Step two: Hand out the “I’d like....” strips. Students write one gift and then fold up their strips. Collect all of the strips. Careful not to mix the different groups’ strips.
Step three: Distribute the strips. You can do this is two ways:
Distribute the strips amongst the same group Students read what is written on their strip and guess who in their group wrote it.
Distribute to different groups. For example, give the strips from group A to group B. Students work together to match each strip to each student in the other group.
N.B. Before the next step, students need to reveal what they wrote on their strip.
Step four: Give out the stockings handout. Students draw a picture of each desired gift (one per stocking). This will require team work and sharing and students need to look at all of the strips. Then cut out the stockings.
Step five: Give the students the fireplace handout. Students write the name of the student and stick the stocking underneath.
Step six: Stick the pictures around the wall. Students walk around looking at their classmates interpretations of the different gift wishes.
Step seven: Give out the Letter to Santa writing paper. Students write their own personal lists.
