PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Interactive social studies notebooks are wonderful, and fun, ways to introduce your students to geography!

I've been using notebooks in Social Studies for several years now, and I love it! My units involve a lot of reading, and even includes mini-books and reading passages! These mini-books have foldables and other activities that focus on reading skills, such as summarizing, looking for main idea and details, highlighting important information, taking notes, etc. My students have loved watching their notebooks grow throughout the school year and enjoy looking back at what they have learned.

NEW!!! Now you can incorporate WRITING with your notebooks! I've added a complete writing unit that focuses on four writing genres and goes along with this notebook unit! Check out the Geography Writing Unit or Geography Bundle for more info!

This 92 page Geography packet is my complete Geography unit. It is a stand-alone unit, so it DOES NOT require a text book. The activities in this unit include the following items:

-Defining Vocabulary Mini-Book
-Vocabulary BINGO Board
-Vocabulary Matching Cards and Pockets

This unit is broken down into the five themes of Geography. These themes include:

Location
-"Location: Where Are We?" mini-book and foldable activity
-Movable compass activity

Place
-"Place: How are Places Different?" mini-book and foldable activity
-Landforms reading passage and foldable activity
-Place Descriptions activity
-Continents of the World reading passage and activity

Human-Environment Interaction
-"Human-Environment Interaction" mini-book and foldable activity
-Tongass National Forest reading passage and activity

Movement
-"Movement: How Did We Get Here?" mini-book and foldable activity
-Movement of Goods activity

Regions
-"Regions: How Are Places Grouped Together?" mini-book and foldable activity
-Regions of the United States reading passages and activity
-Learning About the States activities

There is also an introductory "What is Geography?" mini-book and foldable activity, as well as two wrap-up activities.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Each mini-book is topic specific, and written for my fifth graders, however, I believe it can be used in grades 4th-6th. For each mini-book, there is a coordinating activity that can be added to a notebook. Reading the mini-book, then completing an activity helps cement the newly acquired knowledge into the minds of students!
