Product Description
Poetry Writing: Van Gogh Poetry combines the beautiful paintings of the master artist with writing descriptive imagery. Students will study 12 basic terms of poetry and capture the images from the paintings in their own poetry. The will identify the poetic terms in interactive notebooks using examples from the poetry.

They will take notes about the visual images they see in the poems. More than one method of doing this is explained in the class activities.

The powerpoint will engage all students. VanGogh poetry will help student hone their creative writing skills, problem solving skills, writing fluency, imagery, description and knowledge of test assessment poetry terms.

Students will watch youtube examples of “Vincent” and will discuss what poetic elements are included in the song lyrics. Different levels of you tube videos are provided which outline biographical information about Vincent’s life. One documentary is 59 minutes while two others are approximately 5 minutes.

To write the VanGogh poem, students need to choose twenty images in the paintings that they are passionate about. Tips for writing are given as well as ideas for a writing plan. Student example poems are written in twenty lines of free verse, but writers may choose to create a rhyming poem.
