Please note this product is designed to support your own start-of-the-year Third grade Math instruction. It does not contain lesson plans.
I designed this product for teachers like me who want to have meaningful Math work for the first few days of school, but also like to focus on establishing classroom routines and expectations. It can be hard to know where to start in Math those first few days and this product is the solution! This is an interactive number-sense Math Folder for students in Third grade. It is designed for teachers who spend the first few Math lessons of the year reviewing the basics.
Although the product was designed for students in Third grade, it would also be appropriate for some students in Second and Fourth grades.
The product reviews basic mathematical concepts such as:
• Single digit addition and subtraction
• Place value of two digit numbers
• Using Base-Ten-Blocks to show numbers
• Patterns on a hundreds chart
• Following written instructions to problem solve
The activities in this folder are designed to build our students’ confidence in Math at the start of the year. We want them all to feel at ease in our classrooms right from the first day. It’s a comfortable and successful way to start the year! Most students in Third grade should have no trouble completing the activities. Using this folder the first week in Math puts everyone on the same page and reviews basic skills that may have lapsed over the summer. The finished product can be used both as a portable anchor chart and warm-up tool for your daily number sense routines that first week of school.
While the kids are having fun creating, reviewing and learning, teachers can use this product as their “routine builder”. It gives us an opportunity to introduce our routines and expectations for areas such as: independent work time, the distribution of materials (e.g. glue and scissors), noise level during work periods, etc. Once the folder is completed, the possibilities for use are endless. I guess it’s kind of a sneaky product, because while the kids are “doing Math”, the focus for us can be establishing our expectations for the rest of the year. It’s really a win-win resource!
The product also includes an editable version of the back page of the folder called “Find the Treasure”.
Please be sure to download the preview file. It really is the best description of the product. In order for you to be sure this is the right product for you and your grade level, the preview shows, in detail, all the items included in this product.
