This activity requires you to download the free NOVA Elements app by PBS for iPad. This app features an interactive periodic table with pictures, video clips, and information about each element. Students can also use the app's "build" feature to create digital models of each element.
Students are asked to look up information on the following 11 elements: H, He, C, O, Al, Si, Cl, Ni, Cu, Ag, Au. The Cloze response sheet (2 pages) asks students to fill in key information from each element's iPad article, as well as to construct a model of each element.

1. Hydrogen is in the group ______________________. It was first discovered in the year ___________. Because hydrogen makes up ¾ of the mass of the universe, it is the _____________________ element. The _____________ of hydrogen atoms releases tremendous energy in stars. Hydrogen atoms provide the ________________________ for all other atoms.
