This Primer Dolch Word powerpoint presentation is your tool for keeping students on task even during transitions. It doesn't require any guidance from you. If you create a shortcut to this file on your screen, you could assign one of our students who will always be in charge of starting the powerpoint whenever transitions begin. Meanwhile, students one at a time can get up, wash their hands and come back to their seat and join others in reading. You have to assign an order in which children are expected to get up for their turn, and you can squeeze in some valuable learning when your students expected it the least.
The powerpoint tells students they will be reading 'my turn, your turn' with the speaker of the powerpoint. It gives students 3 seconds to repeat the word back as they look at the word and the pictures that represent it. As a signal to the teacher to start the next powerpoint for higher level, or move on to the next activity, I included a song on the last slide.
My son who is just starting to speak sang it, and I know kids will have a blast laughing at his silly mistakes. This will show the kids that they shouldn't be afraid to make mistakes, we all make mistakes and sometimes it is even cute.
I will be happy to hear how this activity is working in your classroom. I appreciate your feedback.
