Interactive Science Notebook
Rock Cycle Candy Lab
In this lab, students use Starburst candies to mimic all three stages of the rock cycle. The lab sheet folds in half to create a foldable for Interactive Science Notebooks.
The first page of the lab gives students a brief review of the three main types of rocks. The second page gives student instructions on how to manipulate three Starburst candies into a sedimentary rock, metamorphic rock, then finally an igneous rock.
3 Starburst candies per student (or 3 per group)
Microwave to heat the candy
Paper plate or cup with a waxy coating (I used Dixie brand plates and they worked great.)
