Thanks for previewing this unit! The activities I've created for my 4th grade students for the New Nation are intended to be used in an interactive notebook. There are graphic organizers that students may cut out and glue into their notebooks (if you use composition-sized notebooks) or simply hole-punch the pages and place them in students’ social studies folders. The unit begins with the Declaration of Independence and includes graphic organizers to help cover the following topics: the Articles of Confederation, the Great Compromise, Shays' Rebellion, the 1st Constitutional Convention, the Bill of Rights, the 1st 10 Amendments to the Constitution (emphasis on the 1st Amendment), the rise of political parties, the 3 branches of government, checks and balances, the President's Cabinet, how Washington, D.C., became our nation's capital city, the roles of national vs state government, how a bill becomes a law, and responsibilities of citizens. The last few pages are “V.I.P.” cards your students can use as flash cards to study for their test or as a unit review! I hope your students will love this unit as much as mine do!
