About this notebook....

This absolutely wonderful Interactive Social Studies Journal took me weeks to make. It is sure to get your students excited about studying U.S. History. Your students will read about historical events while practicing reading strategies. In addition, they will reflect and write about what they have read as they complete the interactive journal activities. My students in the past have always loved and taken great pride in their journals. Their journal is also a great resource to pull out at the end of the year for state testing and reread about important events. What a great bonus!

**********NOTE before you buy. These products are NOT editable. You can not cut and paste the passages or images. This is to protect my work as well as my need to follow licensing rules from the clip artists I buy from.*****************

This interactive social studies journal includes the following:

*20 Close Reading Passages

*Teacher Discussion Guide for each Passage

* Over 20 interactive response activities (at least 1 per close reading)

Click the 'preview' above to get a glimpse of included items.

The close reading passages can all be purchased separately in my store, but when you buy this bundled pack, you are getting the response activities as a bonus. This means that you are only paying for the close readings and getting over 20 response activities for FREE!!!

To purchase close readings individually, click HERE. The individual close readings do include teacher discussion questions, but not the interactive journal activities.

The 20 close reading passages were written with 4th graders in mind, but I have listed them for grades 3-5 since you may have some advanced or weaker readers in those grades.

Because these passages are non-fiction, and because they cover some of the same topics that are touched on in even high school classes (after all, the facts are the facts, no matter what grade you are required to teach them), there may be a few situations where these passages would work for that situation, too.

The close reading passages included are on the following topics:

*Native Americans

*European Exploration

*Christopher Columbus

*Southern Colonies

*Middle Colonies

*New England Colonies

*French and Indian War

*Stamp Act

*Tea Act - Boston Tea Party

*Intolerable Acts

*Lexington and Concord

*Committees of Correspondence and First Continental Congress

*Second Continental Congress and Declaring Independence

*Battle of Saratoga and Help from France

*George Washington, Battle of Trenton, and Valley Forge

*Battle of Yorktown and Treaty of Paris

*Black Regiments/1st Rhode Island Regiment

*Strengths and Weaknesses of British and Continental Armies

*Geography Benefiting Americans in 3 Battles

The push today in classrooms is to teach the kids the skills of close reading. Focus on and analyze a shorter passage. Hold the details of the passage under a microscope to really examine it. What better way to do that than with non-fiction material that also covers required curriculum for another content area, such as social studies.

Please remember, this purchase is for the use of one teacher to be used with students she/he teachers. It is not intended to be shared. Please use the 'additional license' purchase if more than one teacher will be using it. I thank you for that. :-)

NOTE: Please check in the future for other interactive social studies response journal sets.
