To help with grading the ISN I developed this Stamp Sheet. The students fill in the DATE DUE, circle if it is LEFT or RIGHT side, record the page #, and record a title of the assignment. When I check assignments they have this sheet out and I stamp either HALF or FULL credit. For me with meant 5 or 10 points. I gave a 5 if about half was done or if the effort looked minimal. Then after 10 assignments they would turn in this sheet, I would add up the points and record for their grade.
They love the stamp sheet! It keeps them organized and they are aware of what we have done and what is due.
I sometimes gave extra credit if a student had all the stamps.
Using this stamp sheet allowed me to stop collecting the ISN's for a grade. If they were doing the work well, they were learning and I checked for understanding through formative and summative assignments. I allowed them to use their ISN on many tests, which forced me to make different kinds of tests; ones that required them to use the information in the ISN to answer my questions.
The reason I added Exit Assignment on the title is because I required an assignment to be complete before they could EXIT the classroom. So, they would show me this handout as their ticket out the door.
