The following product is a book. It can be a class book, shared writing activity, or students can make individual books. This product contains two versions of the book; therefore, the lesson can be differentiated to meet the needs of your students. In the first version, the gingerbread man will be manipulated on each page so that the students are “acting out” the verbs in the book. Then each student completes their book by filling in the blanks with a verb. For example a student may write: “The gingerbread man darts off the pan and out the door.”
The second version allows students to choose the animals that they would like to have in the story. Students also write the story themselves. This allows for more creativity.
This lesson is meant to support student acquisition and usage of verbs when reading and writing. It can also support lessons that highlight “shades of meaning” and vocabulary. Examples are provided within the direction pages.
Please see the product preview. This provides examples of the book, verbs that can be used, and the differentiation options.
