Included in this packet: Interactive Vocabulary Books to target Earth Day. One book explains ways to keep the planet healthy. The second book allows the child to sort waste into three categories (paper, compost, aluminum/glass/plastic.) Two homework sheets are included.
The story base is the last page of the book. On the left is the last page of the story with icon place holders on the right. Leave this page whole. Add Velcro to the top of each of the 12 pictures (right side) and the 12 empty squares in the book (left side). Cut out the extra page of icons so you have 12 individual interactive pieces. Add Velcro. Put each individual square on top of its picture match so that the right side of the book has 12 removable icons, each on top of their picture on the base. When the students read the book have them find the correct icon to move from the right side and match on each page on the left. .
As you read each page of the book, ask your student to find the correct interactive piece and attach it. Use the extra sentence strips to scaffold support for using sentences, describing functions, and describing locations.
The interactive books are designed to allow students to match pictures to each page of the book using velcro. These books are really great for young children because they allow little hands to be busy matching. They also have a very clear ending. The kids can see if they get the 12 pictures done they are finished with this activity. I can work on many additional goals (pronouns, functions, attributes, etc.) while targeting this activity. Please email with any questions before you purchase.
