PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

OLD NEWS IS NEW NEWS - A two week lesson that is student directed and graded.

For this exciting and historical CC aligned journal topic, the student becomes reporters from the past. Each student is to be a reporter of any kind of news they choose, from any time period in the past. They could report health or sports news from The Middle Ages, or fashion news from the time of the ancient Egyptians, or political news from ancient Rome, or news from the battle lines during World War I or World War II; the topics are endless. They will need to do research so their article will be authentic to the time period and topic they chose.

THIS JOURNAL LESSON INVOLVES RESEARCH AND COULD BE EXTENDED INTO A TWO-WEEK LESSON, WHICH IS ENTIRELY UP TO THE TEACHER.

Students will be guided through the entire writing process using the following rubrics with appropriate examples to help them be successful:

Prewriting Brainstorming Rubric a list of interesting periods and events from the past to choose from
Rough Draft Idea Brainstorming Rubric with examples
Rough Draft Rubric
A Final News story Example to follow for the correct news article format
Final Draft Rubric
