Your reading and word work centers just got a whole lot more fun!
This reading activity is easy to set up and highly engaging!
The Word Spots each contain an action and a space for you to either write (with a marker or, if laminated a dry-erase marker) the words or use the editable version to type the words.
How to play?
Lay the words in a line, in circle, or even a circuit around the room.
Students are provided with their own instruction card.
Demonstrate how to read the word on the card then perform the action whilst reading it three times. It's that easy and that fun!
Once children have read the word, they move on to the next word.
Players keep on going to the end. The person behind them can start once they have made it through a few words.
If a student doesn't know the word then classmates can help, or they can move on then listen closely to the next person when they read it. Setting up the activity in a circle will promote this method of learning.
Variations:
1. Students could roll a die to decide how many times they read the given word.
2. Set up the Word Spots outdoors.
3. Make one or two extra sets and have children take turns using them for homework each week.
4. Print two Word Spots to a page using your printer settings. This option would be suitable for smaller rooms or for older children who don’t need to read large text.

pat your knees
balance on one foot
raise your arms
touch your knee
jump
skip on the spot
point
clap above your head
blink
push
raise the roof
tip-toe
wave
clap
pretend to climb
step
wiggle wobble
kneel
run on the spot
stand like a statue
close your eyes

tip like a teapot
fold your arms
hang ten
say it on the phone
type it
The editable version allows you to type in your own words from any list that you are using.
Please note that there are no words on the Word Spots, they are empty for you to write or type on.
Your file comes in both color and black and white.
