Word walls...We need them, even though the kids may rarely even look at them. They have many more things to do than to consider whatever little cards the teacher has decided to put on the wall. Well, why simply stick words to the wall in an attempt to make sure that students always have a variety of important words to look at? Get the kids to do it! This simple FREE activity allows students to take ownership in creating a word wall with moving parts that can be explored by the entire class.
Here are just a few ways to use the interactive word wall sliders:
- Young Presenters - Allow students to randomly select a word from a future lesson, and give them at least a week to spend learning all they can about that word. The following week, have each student present their slider to the class. If it's too small, try using a doc-cam!
- Fast Finishers, Go! - Whenever students finish ahead of the class, have them find new words that interest them and then create a slider to share with the class.
- Guess My Word: In this game, the whole class can work in groups or independently to identify a word that the teacher selected by using clues that the teacher gives. Want students to interact with the content even more? Allow a student to pick a word and provide the clues!
-Interactive Vocabulary Center - Place the word wall low enough for students to physically interact with and give them simple tasks to complete for a select number of words.
There is a plethora of possibilities! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I hope that you enjoy this free product, my very first addition to the Teachers Pay Teachers site!
