I love using timers and slides to help keep my lessons on track; it is no different with Writer's Workshop. However, with Writing Workshop there isn't a center rotation, but students all over the room working on various parts of the writing process. How do you manage that? Many teachers use a clip chart, but I find it easier to use a digital form of management to conserve wall space! With this simple product there are three main slides (as their are three main components to Writer's Workshop). The first is titled Writing Mini Lesson, with a 5 minute timer (this can easily be deleted or set to a different time). The second is Writing Time. Students can come up to the SmartBoard (or any interactive white board that is compatible with Smart Notebook) and move their name as they move into a different part of the writing process. This is a game changer! When I first introduce this, I am the one to move their name until I feel confident they understand each part. There is a 15 minute timer set for writing time (again, this can be adjusted, based on your student's stamina). Finally, there is a slide for sharing time (5 minute timer). This is a simple but effective editable product that will help you and your students stay on track and engaged during Writer's Workshop!
