Science activities, writing activities, literacy centers, and an Ant lapbook to help your students explore the wonderful world of insects!
Pg 1-3 Activity to go with the book "In the Tall, Tall Grass" -
Print page 1 and 2 back to back on green paper, with page 2 upside down. Students cut on lines to make grass. Students then cut pictures from page 3 and use beginning sounds to match the pictures to the correct box. Students trace the word "there."
Page 4-5 Ant body part activity- students cut the parts from page four and use black strips to make an ant body. Students then use the labels on page 5 to label the parts of the ant's body.
Page 6- Title for an Ant lapbook, in which all ant activities can be placed
Page 7-8 Questions About Ants flipbook. Print page 7, fold in half, and cut on lines. Students sort sentences on page 8 to answer the questions.
Page 9-11 Ant in my Pants literacy center- Students practice beginning and ending blends by placing all ants cards on the pants mat and trying to read the words to remove the ants from the pants.
Page 12 Bug Catcher literacy center- place toy bugs on the words. Students must read R controlled words to catch the bugs and place them in the jar.
Page 13-14 Ant Observation journal
Page 15- Ant colony diagram- students draw what happens in each room of an ant colony
Page 16- Ant life cycle diagram- students draw and label the stages of an ant's life cycle
Page 17- Insect Tallying activity- students go outside and tally the insects they observe
Page 18- Ant jobs Accordian book- students fill in the missing beginning sounds and trace the word "they" to complete the book
Page 19-20 Hungry Hungry Caterpillar activity- print back to back- students fill in the missing number words to retell "The Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar"
