Product Description
This packet will help your students write informative/explanatory texts about insects. It includes a prewriting graphic organizer and a fun nonfiction book for students to write interesting facts they learned about insects! This simple writing project can easily be integrated into any insect unit. It can also be used during Writer’s Workshop or Daily 5/Literacy Centers.

***Full page and half page versions included

Contents included:

- How I use this in my classroom

- graphic organizer

-full page version: cover page, table of contents, 5 pages of writing information: describing what the insect looks like, where it lives, life cycle, fun facts, and diagram. An “About the Author” page is also included. There is also a full page of writing lines (this can be used to copy on the back of each page for additional writing space if desired).

-half page version includes the same writing ideas as the full size version. *****I use this version during Daily 5/Literacy centers.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.1.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.1.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., explore a number of “how-to” books on a given topic and use them to write a sequence of instructions).

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations).
