Product Description
This lesson was a fun way to show students how to divide using the area model to find whole number quotients with three-digit dividends and one-digit divisors. I taught this lesson with the students using their interactive student notebook. The lesson includes a preview which leads into the lesson. It also has numerous slides for the interactive learning part of the lesson and a process for students to practice independently. This lesson displays nicely on a whiteboard for whole group instruction or computers and tablets for small group instruction. I taught this lesson after I introduced division to my students using base ten blocks.

This resource contains 55 full color slides that focus on using the area model to find whole number quotients with three digit dividends and one digit divisors. Also included are left and right side activities for the interactive student notebook. The preview slide has the students solve basic division problems, relating multiplication to division. Then the interactive learning part of the lesson starts out with a division word problem. The slides thereafter are a step by step guide to solving the word problem. Several of the slides are great visual aids to help differentiate instruction for all learners through chunking and repetition. There is also a process at the end of the lesson for students to practice independently. This process can be used as an exit ticket to see what the students have learned. Be creative and do what works best for you and your students.
