Product Description

This is a lesson on how to multiply a fraction by a whole number. Students will also decompose a fraction into unit fractions and record the conclusion as a multiplication equation. The lesson includes a preview which leads into the lesson. It also has numerous slides for the interactive learning part of the lesson and a process for students to practice independently. This lesson displays nicely on a whiteboard for whole group instruction or computers and tablets for small group instruction. This lesson can be a fun and engaging way to teach students how to multiply a fraction by a whole number.

This resource contains 50 full color slides that focus on how to multiply a fraction by a whole number. This lesson includes activities for the left and right side of the interactive notebook. The preview slide starts out with a mixed number. This leads into the lesson showing students that the mixed number is not the same as the fraction times the whole number. Several of the slides are great visual aids to help differentiate instruction for all learners through models and repetition. There is also a process at the end of the lesson for students to practice independently. This process can be used as an exit ticket to see what the students have learned. I have also included a worksheet that can be used for a formative. Be creative and do what works best for you and your students.
