These bookmarks can be printed out for students to use as they are reading through any text, although they are geared mostly for fiction novels. They provide a quick/constant reminder of what good readers do as they are reading and accompany a lesson on green (easy), yellow (sort of difficult), and red (holy cow is this even English?) reading and strategies to cope with each level. Even if you don't do a grand lesson on green, yellow, and red reading, these bookmarks are helpful reminders for students if/as they are struggling with the class' reading assignment. Some teachers I know even give a randomly checked point of extra credit to students who have their bookmarks in their books.
