Intermolecular forces is a whole unit with vocabulary, activities, labs, interactives, notes, and final project all on intermolecular forces. The unit covers the 3 different types of intermolecular forces and the affect of intermolecular forces on bulk physical properties like boiling and melting point, vapor pressure, surface tension, and volatility. The unit also covers polar and nonpolar molecules.
Included is a 21 page packet for the unit for the students with answer key and teacher instructions, and PowerPoint. Agenda page is editable for dates, agenda, homework and due date for homework. Front page of packet contains what the students need to know by the end of the unit, a place to stamp completed work, helpful websites, and standard.
The unit aligns with the *Next Generation Science Standards HS-PS1-3: Plan and conduct an investigation to gather evidence to compare the structure of substances at the bulk scale to infer the strength of electrical forces between particles.
Materials that will be needed:
Computers with internet access, water, beakers, oil, pennies, ethanol, acetone, eye droppers or pipettes, burettes, ring stands, burette clamps, metal balls, ball magnets, pie tins, thermometers, filter paper, rubber bands, funnel, balloon, cloth, glass rod, and rabbit fur. The Vernier Electrostatics kit can take the place of the balloon, cloth, glass rod and rabbit fur.
